The hotels in Oia are considered to be the most privileged all over Santorini. Even though the caldera buildings were seriously damaged in 1956 due to the earthquake, new buildings wre erected again at the same position given that the view they offer is incomparable.
What makes Oia hotels unique is firstly the view and secondly their architectural style. As far as the view is concerned, given that Oia is located to the northwest of Santorini island, some of the hotels have been built along the north coast thus facing the Aegean Sea and others are built to the west, opposite Thirasia island.
In the second case, apart from the caldera view, they also face the sunset as the sun is diving in the sea behind Thirasia. However, in both cases the sunset view is spectacular. The sky is painted in several colors during the evening and the residents of Oia hotels have usually the chance to enjoy the view of a unique scenery.
Apart from the locations mentioned above, some of the hotels in Oia are built to the east of the village toawards the inland, looking to the east of Santorini island. In this case, they have a view to the sunrise and to the valley of Baxedes.
Regarding the architecture of Oia hotels, most of them have remained consistent to the architectural style of the picturesque village. So, guests can accommodate in luxurious cave houses with romantic arched ceilings, or captains’ mansions experiencing the traditional elegance of the old seamen.
Each hotel in Oia is embraced by the romantic atmosphere of the imposing scenery of the village. Oia is mainly preferred by couples or honeymooners who wish to have an entirely romantic holiday, in privacy and luxury.
The hotels in Oia offer almost any kind of facilities as they fulfill high standards accommodation, even swimming pools which are really hard to be constructed on the caldera cliff. Yet, in most cases guests can enjoy swimming in smaller pools or Jacuzzi tabs just at the edge of the caldera cliff while enjoying the spectacular view.
